The Baptist Health Cardiac Surgery Program

Established in 1994, the Baptist Cardiac Surgery (BCS) Program has evolved into a leading center in Kentuckiana, with a commitment to excellence in care, outcomes, and cardiac surgery advancement. Our surgeons perform more than 1,000 cardiac surgical procedures annually with combined surgical experience of more than
100 years.

Our Less Invasive Cardiac Surgery approach involves a comprehensive multi-modality effort that tailors each procedure to each individual patient. This has resulted in an overall lower “surgical impact”, with lower complication and transfusion rates, improved pain management, shorter hospital stays, quicker returns to normal functional status, and more positive patient experiences.

Minimally Invasive Heart Procedures

Cardiac Surgeon Sebastian Pagni, MD at Baptist Health in Louisville, Kentucky describes in detail how using less invasive techniques can help patients heal and recover faster after open heart surgery.

"I was diagnosed with a heart murmur in 7th grade due to mitral valve prolapse. Many years later, I became short of breath and very symptomatic. I needed a mitral valve replacement. Every aspect of my care, from start to finish, at Baptist Health Louisville was amazing. I can exercise again!"
